eFormatting Preparation

I will prepare your Word .doc for epublishing. This service is separate of editing. My prep will ensure that your Word .doc is acceptable for conversion by Smashwords and inclusion in the Smashwords Premium Catalogue, which means Smashwords will distribute your ebook to Apple, Diesel, Kobo, Sony, Barnes & Noble, and other vendors. Prices depend on the length of your project, whether it’s a single- or multi-title work, and other factors. Please scroll down to see the Fee Schedule.

I will return to you one .doc for submission to Smashwords (“the Smashwords Edition” of your ebook), another for submission to Amazon and other venues under only your own publishing name, and a PDF file you can share with friends and family as you see fit.

eBook Cover Creation

A cover is required for inclusion in the Smashwords Premium Catalog, and Amazon touts an attractive book cover as the best way to draw potential readers to your ebook. I will create an ebook cover for you. I will return to you two covers: one for submission to Smashwords and Amazon, and a thumbnail size you can use on your website or wherever you choose. Submission Service

It’s very easy to submit your own files to Smashwords, Amazon and other venues. However, if you absolutely do not want to submit them yourself, I will submit them to Smashwords and to Amazon.com for an extra $40. (Submitting your files to any other venue costs an additional $20 per venue.) This service is contingent on you sending me all pertinent information (Internet keywords, brief description, categories, author bio, and price) from you. Note: Before I can submit your files for you, YOU have to go to http://smashwords.com and to https://kdp.amazon.com/self-publishing/signin and set up the accounts. You’ll have to give them your name and address, banking and/or PayPal information (so they can pay you), etc. Until you do that, I can’t submit your files for publication.

*Note: If your manuscript contains numbered or named chapters or other divisions, a manually hyperlinked table of contents (TOC) is required by Smashwords and other venues.

 
Eformatting Revisions or Updates: I will revise, free of charge, any formatting that causes any major problems in your ebook (e.g., non-admittance into the Smashwords Premium Catalogue, rejection by Amazon or other major booksellers). However, elective, author-mandated text or formatting revisions or updates are $50 each, prepaid.

Notes:

¹Manuscript preparation service includes returning to you two Microsoft Word .doc files: one in your publisher name for submission to Amazon and other independent venues, and one for submission to Smashwords. Note that this service does not include editing, correction of spelling errors, or any service other than formatting, though I do correct minor problems that pop out at me.

²Fee is payable in advance via check or PayPal. (You do not have to sign up for PayPal to pay via credit card through PayPal.)

³I will provide you with two covers: one for Amazon and other venues at just over 800 pixels tall and a thumbnail pic for use on your website (or wherever) at approximately 150 x 200. Note that these are ebook covers only. There will not be a back cover or a spine.

⁴Cover fee includes one proof and one author-mandated revision. All other revisions are an additional $20 each, payable in advance.

⁵Any photos you provide must be in .png, .gif or (preferred) .jpg format. Important: by sending the photo to me and authorizing me to use it to create your ebook cover, you are affirming that you either own the photo or the necessary rights to use it, or that the photo is in the public domain. You retain all rights to your photos and to the cover I create from your photo or part of your photo. Also please see 9 below.

⁶The “geometric” is a photo (.png, .gif or .jpg) of a geometric or abstract.

⁷“Exclusive use” with my photo means I’m selling you my actual photo or drawing both individually and as part of your cover. (If you provide a photo, “exclusive use” simply means I can’t use it for other projects.) If I don’t have an appropriate photo or drawing in stock, I will find one or take one specifically for your cover. You can use it for any purpose you wish, including future covers. (Good for series, sequels, etc.) I can no longer use that photo (or the part of that photo that I used for your cover) without your permission.

⁸“My preferences” means although I’m using a photo you provide to create your book cover, I have artistic control. (I do not get to use it for other projects.)

⁹“Non-exclusive use” means I’m selling you one-time rights to use the photo or drawing as part of your ebook cover. I still own the photo or drawing and can use it in any form or for the cover of others’ ebooks as well.
