Chapter 7: The Curse of Cognitive Ability

The All-But-Unconscious Desire for Control

The Human Inferiority Complex, Revisited

            The Need to Feel Superior

If You Thought Your Way In, You Can Think Your Way Out

With Malice Aforethought: All Forethought Is Malicious

Our exploration of the human ego continues along with a study of its result, our all-but-unconscious desire to control others. We learn that releasing control of others also releases us from our responsibility for others, a responsibility we bring upon ourselves in the first place; from the other side, we learn that for others to control us, we must allow it; how not to allow it; we revisit the human inferiority complex and the ensuing need to feel superior; not everything we’ve been taught by society and family is right or even natural; we begin learning how to let go, detach, and become a truly passive observer.

We begin to learn that “I Am” is a responsibility siphon; “I Am” is a powerful asset when turned inward but an awful liability when turned on others. Even our unconscious control of others results in guilt and “guilt trips,” “pity parties,” sarcasm, fishing for pity, and the ability and desire to push each others’ emotional buttons.
